Description

With its impressively long eye relief of 16.8mm, the 6.5mm LER ocular from Explore Scientific’s 82° Series of Argon-Purged Waterproof Eyepieces puts the focus on a comfortable viewing experience for all observers. For eyeglass wearers, a long relief is a must because it allows them to enjoy the full field of view.

Although it is not the shortest focal length in the 82° Series, this eyepiece’s 6.5mm focal length will produce high magnifications that are great for observing objects like the Moon, the planets and binary stars. When atmospheric conditions are almost perfect, this eyepiece can reveal amazing planetary details and allow for thorough explorations of the structures within deep sky objects like nebulae.

This multi-element eyepiece achieves superior light transmission with edge-blackened optics made of low-dispersion glass with a high refractive index. Each lens also is fully multi-coated with durable enhanced multi-layer deposition (EMD) coatings. The combination of these factors maximizes the potential of your telescope to capture the celestial wonders you seek with sharp contrast, high resolution and crisp definition.

Like the others eyepieces in Explore Scientific 82° Series, this ocular has an ultra-wide 82° apparent field of view that immerses observers in the cosmos and naturally promotes relaxation at the eyepiece. When you relax your eyes and take in the scene presented before you, it is much easier to observe for longer periods of time, and details begin to materialize that were not revealed at first glance. The broad field of view promotes the use of averted vision, which involves looking slightly to the side of a target object rather than directly at it. This is especially helpful when observing faint objects, because using averted vision puts the image on a part of your eye that is more sensitive to light, allowing you to see fainter images.

All Explore Scientific Waterproof Eyepieces are gas-purged and O-ring sealed to create a waterproof environment that is impervious to internal fogging and prevents contaminants like fungus and dust from entering the ocular housing. This design makes cleaning the eyepiece a breeze.

Miles ★★★★★

The argon purging gives me real peace of mind for those damp observing nights, and the sharpness across that wide 82° field is stunning even in my f/6 scope.

Claire ★★★★★

The 16.8mm eye relief on this 6.5mm eyepiece is a game-changer for me—no more squinting or glasses smudging against the lens. The argon-purged construction gives me peace of mind against fogging during humid nights. Jupiter's bands were crisp and defined right to the edge of the field.

Lucy ★★★★★

I was pleasantly surprised by how much easier it is to keep my eye steady with that 16.8mm eye relief—no more squinting. The 82° field feels genuinely immersive, and the image stays sharp edge to edge. A solid upgrade from my older eyepieces.
